Novena to Our Lady of America - Day Two

Day Two. Our Lady of America, you said, “I desire, through my children of America, to further the cause of faith and purity among peoples and nations. Let them come to me with confidence and simplicity, and I, their Mother, will teach them to become pure like to my Heart that their own hearts may be more pleasing to the Heart of my Son.”
Please intercede for us that we may be granted this grace and morally good leaders who will act according to the revealed will of God and the foundational principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America.

After praying the daily petition for each day, pray the following:

Sister Mildred’s Prayer to Our Lady of America

O Immaculate Mother, Queen of our Country, open our hearts, our homes, and our Land to the coming of Jesus, your Divine Son. With Him, reign over us, O heavenly Lady, so pure and so bright with the radiance of God’s light shining in and about you. Be our Leader against the powers of evil set upon wresting the world of souls, redeemed at such a great cost by the sufferings of your Son and of yourself, in union with Him, from that same Savior, Who loves us with infinite charity.
We gather about you, O chaste and holy Mother, Virgin Immaculate, Patroness of our beloved Land, determined to fight under your banner of holy purity against the wickedness that would make all the world an abyss of evil, without God and without your loving maternal care.
We consecrate our hearts, our homes, our Land to your Most Pure Heart, O great Queen, that the kingdom of your Son, our Redeemer and our God, may be firmly established in us.
We ask no special sign of you, sweet Mother, for we believe in your great love for us, and we place in you our entire confidence. We promise to honor you by faith, love, and the purity of our lives according to your desire.
Reign over us, then, O Virgin Immaculate, with your Son Jesus Christ. May His Divine Heart and your most chaste Heart be ever enthroned and glorified among us. Use us, your children of America, as your instruments in bringing peace among men and nations. Work your miracles of grace in us, so that we may be a glory to the Blessed Trinity, Who created, redeemed, and sanctifies us.
May your valiant Spouse, St. Joseph, with the holy Angels and Saints, assist you and us in “renewing the face of the earth.” Then when our work is over, come, Holy Immaculate Mother, and as our Victorious Queen, lead us to the eternal kingdom, where your Son reigns forever as King. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be . . .
By thy holy and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, deliver us from evil!

Do Americans Even Care about Freedom Anymore?

Think about the chief slogans for Campaign 2016, and then think back to the American founding. Something is missing. We have The Donald’s “Make America Great Again” up against Hillary’s “Stronger Together.” The two are virtually interchangeable. In fact, in 1992 a candidate by the name of Bill Clinton thought his moment had arrived to make America great again. He said so repeatedly. And “stronger together?” Who knows what it means? For all that it might mean, it could just as easily be Trump’s plea in 2016.
Both slogans are full of sound and fury, no, make that noise and fuzziness, and signify, well, signify . . . not much. While they may not be completely empty of meaning, they are thoroughly devoid of something that was not at all meaningless to those who established the American experiment in self-government.

The twin lodestars of that experiment were liberty and equality; they were not greatness and strength, much less togetherness. The founders assumed that greatness and strength, and perhaps even togetherness, would pretty much come along for the ride, so long as the country remained committed to liberty and equality.
Of course, the founders’ understanding of equality would not match that of, say, Bernie Sanders. Perhaps that’s because they were members of that allegedly evil 1%, assuming anyone was calculating—or worrying about—such percentages in the late 18th century. Then again, perhaps not. That’s because equality meant something quite different to the generation that generated the American Revolution. Equality to them meant equality in the eyes of “Nature’s God,” as Jefferson put it. And if that was not enough, it also meant equality before the law.

To be sure, there were serious limits to the founders’ understanding of equality. Slaveholders that many of them were, they certainly didn’t mean equality for everyone. Nor did they mean liberty for all. Like the rest of us, then and now, they had their flaws.
Despite those flaws, or perhaps in part because of them, they did understand the importance of liberty. Patrick Henry was one of them. We still recall and recite, “Give me liberty or give me death.”  (Interestingly enough, this Virginia slaveholder also understood equality, 18th century style, but he did not call out, “give me equality or give me death.”)
Then there was a much lesser known founder father, Charles Carroll of Carrolltown to be specific. At the time of the Boston Tea Party this soon-to-be-signer of the Declaration of Independence sought to remind the Crown and Parliament that his fellow American colonists “are not yet corrupt enough to undervalue liberty.”

It’s hard to read those words without wincing—or at least flinching. It’s also hard to read them without thinking about politics and a certain presidential election, circa 2016. Charges of corruption are everywhere; calls for liberty are nowhere to be heard.
Without benefit of public opinion polls, it would not be a stretch to conclude that Charles Carroll was right—for his time. But would he be right for ours?

The colonists were certainly concerned about corruption, London-initiated corruption, that is. The issue surrounding the Boston Tea Party was less the tea tax than the sweet deal that the British East India Company had negotiated with Parliament to monopolize the colonial tea market. To break free from England was to break free from that sort of corruption, otherwise known as crony capitalism.
Are we Americans now so corrupt, or at least so inured to corruption, that we do undervalue liberty today? Ah, that is the question. The word “liberty” doesn’t come easily to Mr. Trump or Ms. Clinton. One promises strength; the other offers goodies. Where is liberty in all of this? Where indeed?
And corruption? Let’s not get started. We’ve had administrations that created clouds of corruption in their wake. But never have we had two major party candidates so engulfed in credible clouds of shadiness and shady dealings in advance of their possible presidency. Both are flawed in ways that would have deeply troubled our differently flawed founders.
I may have a hunch as to which of the two is more corrupt. You may have a differing hunch. I may have a hunch as to which of the two might be better able to lead us in the direction of liberty. You may have a differing hunch. Still, let’s not get started.

Instead, let’s ponder the words of Charles Carroll. And let’s especially ponder that little word “yet.” As we do so, let’s wonder about our own complicity in all of this. Thanks to the primary system, among other factors, we are much closer to being a democracy, rather than the republic that our founders envisioned—and intended. Therefore, are we now more likely to get the sort of leaders that we deserve (as opposed to the sort of leader that we might need)?
In other words, could a Charles Carroll survey America today, say what he said then—and be credible and believed?  Or are we now too corrupt to value liberty?

Novena to Our Lady of America for True Change and Hope for America 10/30-11/7/16 Day One

St. Paul said to pray “for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity. This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in Indiana to Sister Mildred in 1956 and identified herself as “Our Lady of America, The Immaculate Virgin.” She asked for purity and promised peace and protection if we responded to her requests.
On October 5, 1956, Sister Mildred felt a sudden urge to write a prayer to Our Lady of America as the Patroness of our land. Although she did not hear any words, the thoughts came into her mind with such profundity that she could not stop until the beautiful Prayer to Our Lady of America, Patroness of Our Land was finished.

Day One. Our Lady of America, you asked that the United States of America “be the country dedicated to my purity” and that your children in America “be the children of my Pure Heart.”

After praying the daily petition for each day, pray the following:

Sister Mildred’s Prayer to Our Lady of America

O Immaculate Mother, Queen of our Country, open our hearts, our homes, and our Land to the coming of Jesus, your Divine Son. From Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley's Blog

Opposing Question 4

Hello and welcome!
This week, I produced a series of videos with CatholicTV on Ballot Question 4, the initiative to legalize the commercialization of marijuana that will be voted on in the upcoming election. The Church stands with Governor Baker, Mayor Walsh, the law enforcement community, the medical establishment as well as the ecumenical community in opposing this measure.
These videos have been prepared to illustrate some of the shortcomings of this legislation. I urge all of you to view them and share them with your friends, fellow parishioners and members of your community.PlayList
Also, I am pleased to announce that the Archdiocese of Boston has contributed $850,000 to the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy Massachusetts, which is working against this ballot measure, from unrestricted Central Ministry funds.
The contribution is a reflection of how seriously we consider this issue, understanding that, if passed, this proposed law would have a significant detrimental impact on our parishes and our social outreach and support ministries.
003We operate extensive food pantries, health care clinics and counseling for the needy. The archdiocese provides extensive programs and services for people in economic despair and struggling with addictions, we sponsor housing for low income and homeless people, and provide assistance to newly arrived immigrants who are often subject to opportunistic manipulation due to their unfamiliarity with our society.
If Question 4 is approved, all of these programs and the people we serve will be negatively impacted.  Numerous studies in Colorado since marijuana was legalized there make clear that there is a substantial increase in the demand for emergency medical and counseling services  among the most vulnerable populations, limiting  the resources available for pro-active, productive assistance.
004As an archdiocese, we are particularly concerned about the serious risks to youth that would follow the enactment of this proposed law.   We educate more than 40,000 students in our schools and have a presence in 144 cities and towns through our 289 parishes.   We hold our responsibility for the safety and well being of children and families as paramount in all that we do.  Numerous highly credentialed research studies have established the very serious damage to the physical, intellectual and emotional health of youth that is caused by marijuana use.  We hold as an important obligation to do all that we can to prevent this from occurring.

006On Sunday, I went to Hopkinton to celebrate a Mass for the 150th anniversary of St. John the Evangelist Parish there. A number of priests who had been stationed in the parish were with us for the celebration, including, of course, Father Richard Cannon, the current pastor.015
020
There was a wonderful music program and the choir was just extraordinary.

Cardinal O'Malley and Fr. Richard Cannon, pastorI was very interested in this history of the parish, which they call, “the Cathedral in the Woods”. StJ-IMG_6487
024The founding pastor, who is buried in the parish, was an Irish-American from Roxbury but the parish, of course, sprang up at a time after the Famine when a number of Irish were coming from Ireland to the Boston area. There was a boot factory in Hopkinton where many of the immigrants were employed.
It is amazing that parishioners built this extraordinarily beautiful church, working on it themselves. After many hours of working at the boot factory, they would go to the local quarry and cut the stones that were used to build the church — and it is a stunningly beautiful building. It is a great tribute to the faith of the people who were there at such a difficult time. Today, the parish continues to flourish.

Later that day, I met with Archbishop Charles DuFour, who is the former Archbishop of Kingston, Jamaica and has been named the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Mandeville there. (He had also been the Bishop of Montego Bay – so he’s now headed every diocese in the country!)
CharDuf
I first met him when he was a monsignor and the rector of the seminary in Kingston, and I was the visitator of the seminary. So, we’ve known each other for many years, and the visit was a chance to catch up on the news of the bishops’ conference of the Antilles, which I participated in when I was bishop in the Virgin Islands. The conference takes in all the English, Dutch and French islands plus Belize in Central America and Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana in South America.
I have many fond memories of being part of the conference and of the many fine men who served with us.

On Tuesday, I celebrated the funeral Mass for Msgr. Paul McManus at St. Joseph Church in the West End, which is just next-door to Regina Cleri. Msgr. McManus was the oldest priest in the archdiocese, having turned 100 years old last June. His nephews and their families were there with us along with quite a number of priests of the archdiocese.
It’s amazing to think, in his long lifetime, how many changes transpired in the world and in the Church.
IMG_6488I was touched by the prayer card that they distributed, and my presumption is that he chose it himself. I felt it very much represented his spirituality and his kindness as a person.IMG_6490

StAndrews-IMG_6491That evening, I went to Sacred Heart Church in Quincy for one of our periodic St. Andrew’s Dinners for young men considering a vocation to the priesthood. Father Lou Palmieri was our gracious host for the evening.
The idea of these dinners is to give young men who might be open to a priestly vocation an opportunity to hear about the experience of the seminarians and to meet the archbishop. The Vocations Office organizes a number of these dinners throughout the year. Many of them are held in the seminary, but sometimes we go out to the parishes to make it more convenient for people to attend.
We began with Vespers followed by a lovely meal that the parishioners prepared. Afterwards, three seminarians gave witness talks and I also addressed the young men, many of whom were accompanied by priests or other leaders from their parish. I think there were about 60 young men in all with us.StAndrews-IMG_6492
During the evening, one of the young men challenged me to the “bottle flip.” StAndrews-IMG_1377
He did it very well, but I tried three times and failed each time!

Wednesday, I was happy to attend a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary in Weston. This was Father Kiely’s first meeting with us as the new rector.
We reported on the fact that the national vocation directors association recently had their meeting here in Boston, and it was an opportunity for many of them to see Pope St. John Seminary for the first time. We thought that it was very propitious that they would have an opportunity to meet the new rector and see the renovations to the chapel as well as the new library and communications center.
We hope that this visit will be a help in recruiting for seminarians for Pope St. John, which does such a marvelous job of preparing older men with vocations.

Wednesday night, I was happy to attend the Adopt-A-Student Foundation Dinner to benefit Cathedral High School. tFm3CBcd
During the evening they honored me and Jack Regan, who has been very involved in supporting the school and has had an intern program for many years with the students.
There was a wonderful turnout for the dinner and, during the evening, they had two students and a graduate share their reflections with us. It’s always so inspiring to hear the stories of students.
Many of the students come to the school facing challenges: Half of the students are from immigrant families where English is not the first language and 60 percent of them come from single-parent families.
When the school was founded 90 years ago by Cardinal O’Connell, they chose the cardinal’s motto as the motto of the school: “Vigor in Arduis” — “strength under adversity,” and that’s a good way to describe the school and its students. Despite all the challenges that they have, the students truly are excelling. We have had a 100 percent graduation rate in the last decade. What is more, 100 percent go on to college or university and, of those, 85 percent complete their degree, which is just amazing.
One of the statistics that I mentioned is that if a black youth attends a Catholic high school, they are eight times more likely to graduate from college. I stressed that no other institution in the United States has been more successful in moving people out of poverty and into the middle class than the Catholic schools.
The faith-based values and religious atmosphere is a very important part of the formation that they are receiving there. That is always borne out in the attitudes of Catholic school graduates, who are more engaged on social issues, more likely to go to church, more likely to vote and more likely to be comfortable with diversity.
The head of school, Dr. Oscar Santos, gave a wonderful talk in which he said that no organization in the world has educated as many people as the Catholic Church, and I would add that you would have to look far to see someone who is doing it better!
Until next week,

Cardinal pledges $850,000 to oppose ballot Question 4

Ballot Question 4. Pilot

The Archdiocese of Boston has pledged $850,000 to a campaign aimed at opposing Massachusetts ballot Question 4, which would legalize the recreational use of marijuana in the state.

"The contribution is a reflection of how seriously we consider this issue, understanding that, if passed, this proposed law would have a significant detrimental impact on our parishes and our social outreach and support ministries," said Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley in his blog, Oct. 28.

If Question 4 were to pass, it would not only allow individuals to legally possess, smoke, and grow limited quantities of marijuana in Massachusetts, but it would also invite the commercialization of the drug.

Archdiocesan spokesperson Terrence Donilon said the funds are going towards the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy Massachusetts, which, according to its website, "is a growing coalition of families, workers, businesses, health care and community leaders, anti-addiction advocates, educators, and first responders who are opposing the legalization of the commercial marijuana industry in Massachusetts."

Among those in opposition to Question 4 are Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker and Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, as well as all of the district attorneys and sheriffs in the state.

This issue is particularly important to Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley, Donilon said, as he has seen "firsthand" the effects marijuana has on society.

He stressed that the funds are not coming from parish collection or resources that would normally be diverted to parishes. Instead, these are "unrestricted funds" from the central ministries.

Funds are used for these purposes "rarely," said Donilon, "but when there's such a threat to our social service programs and to our people, then we have to fall on the resources that we have available to us."

He noted the archdiocese has "a track record of this," recalling how it similarly used funds to oppose the Death with Dignity initiative on the 2012 ballot.

The archdiocese's campaign against Question 4 began when Cardinal O'Malley, alongside the other three Massachusetts bishops, issued a statement urging voters to vote against Question 4, Oct. 4.

The call for opposition was heighted two weeks later when Cardinal O'Malley hosted an ecumenical gathering of about 40 faith leaders from around the Boston area, Oct. 18.

The gathering saw representatives of various faith communities discuss their opposition to the initiative, and featured a presentation by Plymouth Republican State Sen. Viriato "Vinny" deMacedo.

Days later, deMacedo also appeared in a short video released online by CatholicTV, in which he presented facts and statistics that highlight the dangers legalization marijuana for recreational use could have on the state.

Cardinal O'Malley was also featured in several similar short videos by CatholicTV.

"As an archdiocese, we are particularly concerned about the serious risks to youth that would follow the enactment of this proposed law," the cardinal said in his blog.

"We educate more than 40,000 students in our schools and have a presence in 144 cities and towns through our 289 parishes. We hold our responsibility for the safety and well-being of children and families as paramount in all that we do."

"Numerous highly credentialed research studies have established the very serious damage to the physical, intellectual and emotional health of youth that is caused by marijuana use. We hold as an important obligation to do all that we can to prevent this from occurring," he continued.
"Whether it was his time in Washington as a young priest, his time in the West Indies -- he's seen the effects of what this has done in his priestly ministry," said Donilon.

TRUE Change & Hope

True CHANGE and HOPE Come Through Prayer and
Not Through Political Promises

As Catholics, before we vote, we are called to inform ourselves about the issues and to form our consciences correctly in accordance with the natural moral law and the teachings of the Catholic Church. We are also called to prayer.

Our Lady of America is our Queen and National Patroness. She said, “I am the Immaculate One, Patroness of your land. Be my faithful children, as I have been your faithful Mother.”

As her faithful children, we must pray for America to have True CHANGE and HOPE for life and peace and we should wear her medal for protection!

Let us pray for True Change for America to reverence life from conception to natural death, to protect the pre-born and their mothers and to care for the elderly; to practice peace and to be protected from religious persecution, wars, terrorism, natural disasters and economic collapse! This is True Change that brings hope for life, peace and protection with God’s blessing.

Our Lady of America is the only canonically approved devotion that is based upon apparitions of Our Lady in the United States. Archbishop Paul Liebold approved and granted the Imprimatur for Our Lady of America’s messages and medal. The medal is only the second approved medal that she revealed in the world and her only medal for protection! It is America’s Miraculous Medal. We should all wear this medal!

Let us pray in unity a Novena to Our Lady of America for True Change and Hope for America (click on the title) during the nine days preceding the 2016 election, beginning October 30 and ending November 7.

Let us return America under God to its foundational principles as established by its Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Perhaps God is calling you to host a Visitation of His Mother’s Image!

Please forward this message to your friends so that they can join our Novena!

Thank you and May God bless you and May God bless America!

Feast of St. Jude, Saint of Impossible Causes - Oct. 28

We turn to St. Jude in times of need and for serious or seemingly hopeless causes — including depression, grieving, unemployment, and illness — and ask for his divine intercession.
In accordance with his surname, Thaddeus (which means generous, courageous, kind),
Our Lord said, “He will show himself most willing to give help.”

I awoke this morning realizing how much my own prayers and blog have helped
me through the worst months and even years of my life.  Life was good and
parenting was so much fun before the fall of 2008.  Not at all perfect but
so much less evil. Yes evil has been unleashed on our world to try to wake
us up. To make us want to strive once again for truth, light and love. If
you watch television it does not look good. If I were to describe the state
of my family you would say, It doesn't look good at all. " Hope in God I
will praise Him still, my Savior and my God. "

Since my earliest memories of picking up the news paper I remember looking
at the novena to St Jude, wondering how people
could put faith in a news paper ad.  I understand that desperate times call
for desperate measures.  It is really all about love. Love is like that
glue we used to have in the sixties. I think it was called rubber cement.
If it got on your fingers you stuck to everything you came in contact
with.  Because God is love and God is in us we will strive to love others
under the gravest of circumstances. We live in a world that is trying with
all it's might and strength to love with out the God who created us. I pray
for the day when we realize that is impossible.

Getting back to how the blog and the prayers help me. The morning prayers
give me hope that I might improve on the way I love. As I read the prayer I
see yesterday's faults and failings and find hope for a better me today. I
pray for Priest who we can't possibly live without. I pray for everyone
who is trying to live without the church and the priesthood.  I call on
the Trinity to purify and strengthen me.

I love the Liturgy of the Hours.  I am reminded that the present struggles
are the same today as they were one hundred or one thousand years ago.  The
wisdom of the Saints turns a light on in my soul, I am ready to begin again
the blazing battle we call life.

During the day when I feel depleted or anxious I go to my prayer room and
listen to the rosary or the Mass. I sleep for a few minutes and start all
over again.

Sharing my musings of this day and praying for the impossible, "Love one
another as I have loved you. "  from Jesus a Man of few words but very hard
to follow.

This and That

First off I have not been writing because we are still in the life saving mode for my youngest son who is dependent on Marijuana and alcohol to get him through the pressure cooker our society calls, "Normal Life." The college he was attending believes and said so right to our faces that the
students are better off on Marijuana as it keeps them mellow and out of the emergency ward.

This atmosphere did not work so we are rebuilding his life from the ground up once again. Praise God for the experience of World Youth Day . I believe the miracle of WYD is still unfolding but one very important piece of it is that he knew enough to call us and say that he needed to come home. It is an impossible struggle for him to not be able to live the way his peers do and feel free to harm an already fragile existence. We continue to move forward by the grace and love of the prayers of many wonderful friends who themselves have there own struggles and deep pain. I am so humbled by the love of the women of God.

For all those grappling with the question of legalizing medical marijuana or otherwise social marijuana I suggest you check the cost of rehabilitation services for you or your loved ones. For us and thousands of others it is more like medical help for marijuana over use which most do not believe is a problem that actually exist.

I have been reading a book by Mirjana Soldo, "My Heart will Triumph."

Mirjana is a visionary from Medjugorje. She tells the story of the Aspirations from the point of view of her life and the messages of the Mother of Peace.  I love the book and would suggest it for anyone. She takes you to the Heart of Our Mother and gives details from her personal experience. My husband and i went to Medjugorje in 1989. I feel the Mother of Medjugorje has been very close to me and our family ever since.

As I was reading I noticed a message that speaks directly to the cause of Purity.  It was given on July 2nd 2011.

"An impure heart cannot do correct and just things: it is not an example of the beauty of God's love to those who surround it and to those who have hot come to know that love."

This message given by Our Lady on July 2nd is especially resounding to me and to those of us who espouse the message of Purity. More than 20 years ago I was given the date July 2nd three times along with a vision of Jesus on the cross surrounded in a haze of green. Since that experience I have always paid close attention to that date as well as the number 72. I have written about this previously. I am now very pleased to know that the date I was given corresponds with the message of Purity from Our Lady of Medjugorje.

Back to the reality of our present life in this country and in the world. I was not looking forward to the debate last night, I tend to fall asleep before 9pm and have found little to arouse my interest enough to stay awake. Last night was no different. I did however wake up long enough to hear the candidates answer the abortion question. The thought of the answer given by a highly esteemed woman of our times sends chills through me even now. Sadder to say that a man was so sure that for no reason should a baby be torn from its mothers womb days even hours before birth. How is it possible that women are not the teachers of life and love any longer. It is the darkness of our souls, darkness brought on by 100 years of Planned Parenthood brainwashing. We must get PPH out of our schools and stop paying them to kill our our souls and the souls of our children.
Any man or woman who is of voting age and did not understand the evil of the answer given by Hillary Clinton and be convicted to do everything possible to get her out of the politics of this country best get to their knees and figure it out fast. The answers could not have been any clearer and shame on us ladies if we don't pray fast and speak up now.

God Bless you,
~Margaret of Souls for Jesus

St. Jude Novena Day 1

Saint Jude is the patron of Hopeless Causes and Desperate Situations.
Pray these novena prayers to Saint Jude with confidence. Catholics have relied on his intercession in times of extreme need for centuries.
This Apostle and Martyr has helped countless souls through his epistle in the New Testament and his intercessions on behalf of those who seek his aid in times of trial.
Pray this novena for your intentions asking St. Jude to intercede to God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit on your behalf.

Saint Jude was one of Jesus’ twelve original apostles, so we can conclude that he was also at the Last Supper. Saint Jude is also known by the name Thaddeus, which means sweetness and gentleness of character. He is not the traitor Judas Iscariot.
Saint Jude, rather, followed Jesus faithfully until His crucifixion, and then later worked on evangelization. Very little is known about his life, but we do know that he died as a martyr — some say around 65AD, giving his life to Jesus Christ.
He is now one of the most invoked saints for intercession in desperate situations because his New Testament letter stressed the importance of a faithful person persevering in the environment of harsh circumstances.

Can we Pray too Much?

The difficulty of the past year has caused me to pray so much that I began to wonder if I know anything else. Have I developed Asperger's as a prayer warrior?  This blog helped me to know that every utterance towards heaven is good and always worth while.

Her books have the Imprimatur of her Bishop and can be
downloaded free here: Catalina Rivas Writings

As I see it; life is getting more difficult for all those who still understand the difference between the truth and a lie. For those of us who know that Jesus and His Holy Catholic Church is the Way, the Truth and the Life. I would not have a life without Christ nor would I want a Life without Christ and the Holy Mass.

An excerpt from the FLOCKNOTE site (free to join) below is from the Testimony of Catalina Rivas, a church approved Stigmatist of our time. She is from Venezuela. She has been filmed by the Fox news people while experiencing the Crucifixion of Our Lord Jesus Christ in her body.  I have seen the film several times. The writer of the blog combines Catalinas Testimony with the Sunday Mass Scripture, and the Catechism of the Catholic church. It is published on a weekly basis. I will ask if we can have it fed to our blog.
God is always with us,
Sincerely,
~Margaret of Souls for Jesus

*SUNDAY October 16, 2016** -* *TWENTYNINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME*

*Gospel **- Lk 18:1-8*
Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to *pray
always without becoming weary.*
He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor
respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and
say, 'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.' For a long time
the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'While it is true that
I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps
bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her
lest she finally come and strike me.'"
The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. *Will not
God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and
night?* Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that
justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he
find faith on earth?"

*The Catechism of the Catholic Church*
*2742 *  “*Pray constantly*... always and for everything giving thanks in
the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.” St. Paul adds, “*Pray
at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.* To that end
keep alert with all perseverance making supplication for all the saints.”
For “we have not been commanded to work, to keep watch and to fast
constantly, *but it has been laid down that we are to pray without ceasing*.”
This tireless fervor can come only from love. Against our dullness and
laziness, the battle of prayer is that of humble, trusting, and persevering
*love.* This love opens our hearts to three enlightening and life-giving
facts of faith about prayer.
*2743*  *It is always possible to pray*: The time of the Christian is that
of the risen Christ who is with us always, no matter what tempests may
arise. Our time is in the hands of God:
*2744 * *Prayer is a vital necessity.* Proof from the contrary is no less
convincing: if we do not allow the Spirit to lead us, we fall back into the
slavery of sin. *How can the Holy Spirit be our life if our heart is far
from him?*

*From “Springs of Mercy” Testimony of Catalina Rivas
(SM-4:4,15:3,32:5,58:4,64:5)*

*4:4)* *Do not let anything remove you*, not even one step from this path.
You will have difficulties, insults, reproaches, but the light of the truth
will shine. Without blinding, one by one will convert; you are to simply
pray… *Offer each moment, good or bad to Jesus… for now… only that.*
*15:3)* *Pray much*; *do not tire of speaking*. Did I get tired of calling
you? A soul is worth more than all of the beauty of creation, because it is
part of Me… *Pray much and help all those whom you can*… I too, love you.
So much more since I have elected you so that
while you humble yourself, you exalt yourself and My glory will be greater.
*32:5)* *More, much more prayer is needed*. With or without the mysteries,
if you are physically occupied, you may repeat ejaculations, words,
thinking of the Holy
Trinity or the Blessed Virgin. *But may you be a constant prayer* and a
lasting surrender.
*58:4)* Glorify the Father and win back one soul each day. *Do not tire of
evangelizing with your lives, with continuous prayer…*
*64:5)* *Pray, little children. Pray a great deal more*. *You do not know
how much your prayers help. Without them, everything that is happening
would be a great deal more difficult.*

FROM THE FLOCKNOTE SITE: YOU SHALL BELIEVE ....
Each week we will be presenting a portion of the following Sunday’s
readings, and linking it to relevant parts of the Catechism of the Catholic
Church and messages from the Testimony of Catalina.  Pay special attention
to the *italicized* sections.  This week we learn about praying
continuously. We hope this is inspiring and educational. Any comments you
have are certainly welcomed.

Mass. bishops urge voters to reject marijuana legalization

BRAINTREE -- The four Catholic bishops of Massachusetts released a statement Oct. 4 urging voters to oppose the legalization of recreational marijuana, a question that will appear on the Massachusetts ballot next month.

Ballot Question 4, if passed, would legalize marijuana for recreational use for individuals 21 or older.

In the statement, which was issued through the Massachusetts Catholic Conference (MCC), the official public policy arm of the Catholic Church in the Commonwealth, the bishops noted the adverse effects that legalizing the drug could have.

They highlight a possible link between usage of the drug and "long-term damaging effects on brain development," and note that legalizing recreational usage of marijuana would "add fuel" to the "losing war" against opioid abuse in Massachusetts and across the country.

"The availability of marijuana for adolescent users already constitutes an environmental factor for the later use of other illicit drugs. Its legalization will only serve to worsen this problem," wrote the bishops -- Boston Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley, Worcester Bishop Robert J. McManus, Springfield Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski and Fall River Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha.

The statement also cites studies done in Colorado, a state that legalized recreational usage of marijuana in 2013, which point towards an increase in traffic accidents and hospitalizations due to marijuana use.

On Communion for Open Apostates

treachery-quotes-8(I had foolishly considered holding back this piece from Dan Lynch until after the election was past or postponed. The more I thought about it, though, the madder I got that the anti-God progressives are starkly waging war against the faith and many of us are still trying to be nice. Hillary Clinton says the churches MUST change on certain things, such as abortion, gay marriage and transgenderism or be banned from polite society. Christians in America are being fined, bankrupted, deprived of their livelihood, and sometimes jailed for simply refusing to participate in what is directly contrary to their faith. Historically, those who publicly and flagrantly defy the non-negotiable fundamentals of the Catholic faith have publicly ex-communicated themselves. For Tim Kaine to continue to publicly defy the faith while claiming the mantle of it to win votes is a desecration – and I am embarrassed that I thought to hold back even as they try to destroy us in order to avoid giving offense. Beyond that, to act as if nothing is wrong is to confirm Kaine in his flagrant error, endangering his soul and making us participants in the damage to him. Here, then, is Dan’s piece.-CJ)

By Dan Lynch
Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is the Democratic Party’s candidate for Vice President. He is also a Catholic.
As a senator, he has received 100% ratings from both Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights League against a zero rating from the National Right to Life Committee.
Mr. Kaine also suggested to a leading homosexual lobbying group at its fundraising dinner that the Catholic Church would evolve its teaching against so-called same-sex “marriage” just as he did, and that his faith justifies his support for same-sex “marriage.”
Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of the Diocese of Providence, Rhode Island wrote the following in a July 23 post on Facebook:
“VP Pick, Tim Kaine, a Catholic?
Democratic VP choice, Tim Kaine, has been widely identified as a Roman Catholic. It is also reported that he publicly supports ‘freedom of choice’ for abortion, same-sex marriage, gay adoptions, and the ordination of women as priests. All of these positions are clearly contrary to well-established Catholic teachings; all of them have been opposed by Pope Francis as well.
Senator Kaine has said, ‘My faith is central to everything I do.’ But apparently, and unfortunately, his faith isn’t central to his public, political life.”
Should Holy Communion be distributed to Senator Kane while he advocates for public policy contrary to Church teaching or does this violate Canon 915 and is it public scandal that may bring judgment upon his soul?
Canon 915 of Church law mandates that those “obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.” In his letter to U.S. bishops on the subject, Cardinal Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, unambiguously confirmed that Holy Communion should be denied “in the case of a Catholic politician… consistently campaigning and voting for permissive abortion and euthanasia laws.”
Cardinal Ratzinger also wrote, when “the person in question, with obstinate persistence, still presents himself to receive the Holy Eucharist, ‘the minister of Holy Communion must refuse to distribute it’. This decision, properly speaking, is not a sanction or a penalty. Nor is the minister of Holy Communion passing judgment on the person’s subjective guilt, but rather is reacting to the person’s public unworthiness to receive Holy Communion due to an objective situation of sin.”
Moreover, regardless of Canon 915, receiving Holy Communion in such circumstances constitutes a sacrilege.
Eucharistic sacrilege means to treat the Holy Eucharist unworthily and is a grave sin because in this sacrament the true Body of Christ is made substantially present for us. (Catechism of the Catholic Church No. 2120). St. Paul wrote, “Whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily sins against the body and blood of the Lord…. That is why many among you are sick and infirm, and why so many are dying. If we were to examine ourselves, we would not be falling under judgment in this way.” (1 Cor. 11, 27-31; Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1385).
Pope John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter, The Church of the Eucharist, reaffirmed this teaching. He said, “I reaffirm that in the Church there remains in force, now and in the future, the rule by which the Council of Trent gave concrete expression to the Apostle Paul’s stern warning when it affirmed that, in order to receive the Eucharist in a worthily manner, ‘one must first confess one’s sins, when one is aware of mortal sin.’” (No. 36).
It appears that Senator Kaine is “obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin”, within the meaning of Canon 915, and that Holy Communion should be denied him on that ground as well as on the further grounds to prevent Eucharistic sacrilege and to prevent judgment upon himself and scandal to the faithful. As Cardinal Burke wrote concerning situations like this, it is not a punishment to be denied Holy Communion, but it is a discipline “in order to respect the holiness of the Sacrament, to safeguard the salvation of the soul of the party presenting himself to receive Holy Communion, and to avoid scandal.”
This is not a political issue, it is a spiritual issue to prevent sacrilege to the Eucharist and to promote reverence and protection of the body and blood of Jesus Christ really and substantially present in the Eucharist; to prevent judgement upon the soul of Senator Tim Kaine and to prevent scandal to the faithful where otherwise it might appear that it is acceptable to be a promoter of the Culture of Death while remaining in union with the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
However, neither Senator Kaine’s pastor nor his Bishop, Francis DiLorenzo, have stated that he should be refused the distribution of Holy Communion.
As Cardinal Burke, rightly observed: “No matter how often a Bishop or priest repeats the teaching of the Church regarding procured abortion, if he stands by and does nothing to discipline a Catholic who publicly supports legislation permitting the gravest of injustices and, at the same time, presents himself to receive Holy Communion, then his teaching rings hollow. To remain silent is to permit serious confusion regarding a fundamental truth of the moral law.”
Please sign the Petition to Bishop DiLorenzo that under the provisions of Canon 915, and on the grounds to prevent Eucharistic sacrilege, public scandal and judgment upon Senator Tim Kane, to publicly declare that if Senator Kaine with obstinate persistence, still presents himself to receive the Holy Eucharist, as Cardinal Ratzinger wrote, “the minister of Holy Communion must refuse to distribute it.”
St. Michael the Archangel said, “Let souls turn to me for renewed devotion to Our Lord in this Blessed Sacrament! He must be properly adored, loved, thanked, praised and worshiped in this the Most Glorious Sacrament. Let souls call upon me whenever sacrileges and abominations are being committed against the Most High God in this Sacrament of His Love. I promise to put to flight His every enemy. GREAT is my zeal for the glory of God!” (Jesus King of All Nations Devotion, Journal 86).
So, as St. Michael counseled, we should call upon him “whenever sacrileges are being committed against the Most High God in the sacrament of His love.” The sacrament that he refers to is the Eucharist and one of the greatest sacrileges against it is the reception of the Eucharist by those in the state of mortal sin.
Please sign the Pledge to Offer Reparation for Sacrilegious Communions.

Mailing address:  Most Reverend Bishop Francis DiLorenzo, Catholic Diocese of Richmond, 7800 Carousel Lane, Richmond, VA, 23294
Dear Bishop DiLorenzo,
Please read the article below by Dan Lynch entitled Should Holy Communion Be Distributed to Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Kaine?
Under the provisions of Canon 915, and on the further grounds to prevent Eucharistic sacrilege, to prevent scandal to the faithful and judgment upon Senator Tim Kaine, I respectfully petition you to publicly declare that if Senator Tim Kaine with obstinate persistence, still presents himself to receive the Holy Eucharist, as Cardinal Ratzinger wrote, “the minister of Holy Communion must refuse to distribute it.” (Please see https://www.ewtn.com/library/CURIA/cdfworthycom.HTM).
I further petition you to follow the good example of Bishop Chrysostom. Bishop St. John Chrysostom told his priests, “Though a captain or a governor, nay, even one adorned with the imperial crown, approach [the table of the Lord] unworthily, prevent him; you have greater authority than he . . . Beware lest you excite the Lord to wrath, and give a sword instead of food. And if a new Judas should approach the Communion, prevent him. Fear God, not man. If you
fear man, he will treat you with scorn; if you fear God, you will appear venerable even to men.”
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely in Christ,
[Your name]
