July 22 is the feast of St. Mary Magdalene. Jesus drove seven demons from her and mercifully forgave her sins. She might have been a prostitute.
She was the sister of Lazarus and Martha. Jesus told Martha that Mary had chosen the better part - contemplation of Him rather than extreme busyness.
Mary was faithful to Jesus to the last. She stood with His mother and the Apostle John at the foot of His Cross, witnessed His burial and was the first recorded witness of His resurrection.
According to John, the resurrected Jesus singled Mary Magdalene out from all the others, charging her alone to bring the good news of His resurrection to His disciples.
